Terms of Service
These terms are a contract between you and the operator of SSLScan. We have written them to be readable, because terms nobody can read protect nobody. Short summaries in boxes are for convenience; the full text governs.
1. Who we are
SSLScan is operated by SSL Scan. You can reach us at support@sslscan.net.
2. The service
SSLScan is a certificate-monitoring service. It builds an inventory of the TLS certificates you point it at - by reading the certificates presented on live TLS endpoints, and by discovering names in public Certificate Transparency logs - and reports on their validity, expiry and configuration.
The service is provided as-is at the plan level you choose. Features per plan are described on the pricing page, which forms part of these terms.
3. Your account
- You must provide a working e-mail address and keep your credentials confidential. Actions taken through your account are yours.
- You must be at least 18, or the age of majority where you live, and if you accept these terms for an organisation you confirm you are authorised to bind it.
- Tell us promptly at security@sslscan.net if you believe your account has been compromised.
4. Plans, trials and billing
Paid subscriptions are sold by Paddle.com Market Ltd, our authorised reseller and merchant of record. Paddle handles the checkout, processes your payment, applies VAT or sales tax for your country, issues your invoice, and appears on your card statement. Your payment details are held by Paddle and never reach our servers. Purchases are additionally subject to Paddle’s own buyer terms.
- Renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically - monthly or yearly, as chosen - until cancelled. The renewal price is the price you signed up at unless we have notified you of a change in advance (see section 12).
- Trials. Where a free trial is offered, your card is verified but not charged at signup. The date of the first charge is shown in the product for the whole trial. Cancel before the trial ends and you pay nothing.
- Cancellation. Cancel any time, self-serve, from your account’s subscription portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period already paid for; access continues until then.
- Refunds. Our refund policy - 14 days, any charge, no argument - forms part of these terms.
- Downgrade, not deletion. When a subscription ends, your account returns to the Free plan. Monitors beyond the free limit pause; your data is not deleted for non-payment.
- Taxes. Displayed prices exclude VAT and sales taxes, which Paddle calculates and collects at checkout based on your location.
5. Acceptable use
The Acceptable Use Policy forms part of these terms. The heart of it: you may only point SSLScan at domains and systems you own or are authorised to assess. Entering a name into the product is your representation to us that you have that authority. You are responsible for that representation being true, and you will indemnify us against claims arising from it being false.
6. Your data
- Yours stays yours. The hostnames, ranges and configuration you enter, and the scan results derived from them, are your data. We use them to provide the service, not to build products for anyone else.
- A copy on request. Ask at support@sslscan.net and we will send your inventory in a machine-readable format.
- Deletion. Ask at privacy@sslscan.net and we delete your monitors, findings and history from the live systems, with residual copies leaving encrypted backups on their fixed rotation schedule. Invoicing records are retained by Paddle as tax law requires.
- Privacy. Personal data is handled as described in the Privacy Policy.
7. Intellectual property
We own the service, its software, design and branding. You get a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the service for your internal purposes while your account is in good standing. You may not resell the service, remove notices, or reverse-engineer the software except where law expressly permits. Feedback you choose to send us may be used to improve the product without obligation to you.
8. Availability and support
We operate the service with care but do not promise uninterrupted availability, and scheduled maintenance may occasionally interrupt it. Support is by e-mail at support@sslscan.net; we aim to respond within two business days and are usually faster.
9. Disclaimers
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. In particular, monitoring is observational: we report what your systems present to us when we look. We do not warrant that every certificate, endpoint or misconfiguration in your estate will be discovered, that findings are free of false positives, or that an alert will reach you in time to prevent an outage. Certificate expiry is prevented by renewing certificates, which remains your responsibility.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent the law allows: neither party is liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or goodwill; and our total aggregate liability under these terms is capped at the greater of US $100 and the amounts you paid for the service in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
11. Suspension and termination
- You may close your account at any time from the settings page.
- We may suspend or terminate an account that materially breaches these terms - above all the Acceptable Use Policy - or where suspension is necessary to protect the service, other customers, or third parties. Where practical we warn first and suspend narrowly (for example, pausing scanning while leaving your data accessible).
- Sections that by their nature survive termination - including 6, 7, 9, 10 and 13 - survive it.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the product and the law evolve. For material changes we give at least 14 days’ notice by e-mail to your account address before the change takes effect; the date at the top of this page always states the current version. If you do not accept a change, cancel before it takes effect - continued use after that date is acceptance. Price changes never apply retroactively to a period you have already paid for.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws applicable to the contracting entity identified in connection with your purchase or subscription. Any disputes will be subject to the jurisdiction specified by that contracting entity, subject to any mandatory consumer protection laws that cannot be excluded or waived.
